Portland Wine Cellars

Our Philosophy

Quality Quality Quality.

We do what we can to ensure excellent quality, like aiming to stock mostly wines that are bottled by the producer rather than in factories in England. We also aim to get most of our beers from the countries of origin rather than beers that are brewed under licence in the UK. The only Stella Artois we sell is the cans brewed in Belgium. In both of these ways and through many more tricks of the trade, we aim to stock only drinks that meet our standards to ensure only the finest quality drinks for their price.

If it's not worth the money, it's not in our shop.

If we don't think a drink is of good enough quality we simply won't stock it. We endeavour to try as many of our drinks as possible and where we can't we rely on suppliers we trust to provide us with quality.

When we judge our drinks we often ask ourselves is it worth the money we're asking people to pay. Only if it's a yes does it get on our shelves. This means that even our cheapest drinks are of good quality. We never stock rubbish just because it will sell. That applies from £3 supermarket wines to some expensive and undoubtable good quality wines that we feel are overpriced. The money you spend, whether its £5 or £500, should provide you with quality inside the bottle not just a well known label on the outside of it. Furthermore, we always aim to put a smile on your face both when buying the bottle and once it's opened.
If you want it, we can get it! ...mostly

Ok, well, most of the time anyway! In the highly unusual event that we don't already have what you are looking for, ask us and 99 times out of 100 we will be able to get it in for you. We will do the searching for you and find you the best price for the strange concoction you had on holiday or that gorgeous wine you had in a restaurant last month. So come and talk to us about the weird and wonderful tipple you can't find anywhere... if we can't get it, no one can.

Old fashioned, traditional good customer service.

Our staff are always friendly and knowledgeable but we also want you to enjoy your time in our shop so as well as helping you make your selection, we will carry your purchases out to your car and hold doors open when it's called for. Nothing more than good manners and good service of course but something that is severely lacking from the modern, high street shopping experience.
